There are a lot of places for a listener to find music now: a digital music retailer like iTunes, “big box” discount stores like Best Buy, or via illegal downloads, to name a few. But the independent music store is still alive and well.
The film visits Burlington Records in Vermont, a used-record store that just opened in April 2009. Owner Jacob Grossi talks about why he opened a music shop in such a bad economic climate, how it’s survived and thrived in its first year, and the importance of record stores to a local community.
Burlington’s most well-known and longest-running record store, Pure Pop Records, is featured as well. Assistant manager Herb van der Poll talks about the climate for record stores that specialize in new music, and how the vinyl resurgence has breathed new life into Pure Pop.
